Special Screening of From a Silk Cocoon
Kim Ina, Associate Producer of the Emmy Award winning film “From a Silk Cocoon”
Friday, April 9, 1:15 pm
The film will be screened at 425 Market St., 8th Floor San Francisco (Embarcadero BART/Muni station, exit B3)
The film received a Northern California Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement Historical/Cultural Program and it depicts the discovery of a small metal box which leads to uncovering a family story, shrouded in silence for more than 60 years.
Woven through their censored letters, diary entries and haiku poetry, is the story of a young Japanese American couple whose shattered dreams and forsaken loyalties lead them to renounce their American citizenship while held in separate prison camps during World War II. They struggle to prove their innocence and fight deportation during a time of wartime hysteria and racial profiling.
Ms. Ina will introduce the film and answer any questions. DVDs of the film will be available for purchase.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Please come and bring a friend.

I saw this film today & was in tears. It’s an amazing film: sweet, sad, and very well done.
This period in our country’s history is one we cannot afford to forget; lest we relive it. In particular I’m thinking of Islamic Americans who are being demonized because of the attacks on 9/11/01.
I recommend this film to anybody who likes a good documentary, or who appreciates history.
It’s a shame we won’t be in town for this event, it would be one worth sneaking in the back door to watch!
I will have to check the film’s website to see if we can get a copy of the DVD without a regional block.
Officially jealous!
Enjoy!
