On our travels to Bukhara, Uzbekistan, we will see a man on a camel herding goats. Martin says that the handicrafts in all four countries we visit are of exquisite beauty.</p>

<p>Carol Kizziah has worked with Delancy Street Foundation for more than thirty years. Ms. Kizziah and Rebecca Johnson, a Delancy Street resident and head of their Catering Department, will give an overview of the history and philosophy of Delancy Street, their residents and graduates, facilities and enterprises such as Christmas Tree Sales and Decorating, Crossroads Cafe, Delancy Street Restaurant and Delancy Moving.</p>
<p>Delancy Street is considered one of the nations top self-help residential education centers for former substance abusers and ex-convicts. There are approximately 1500 residents located in five facilities throughout the country in New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Los Angeles and headquartered in San Francisco. For Delancy Street, Ms. Kizziah directed a program with the California Department of Corrections and the Bay Area Parole Services Network, to more effectively address treatment and supervision needs of drug dependent offenders paroled to six Bay Area counties.</p>

<p>Birgit traveled to the island of Kyushu to visit several cities, including Kyoto, Kanazawa and Takayama, in the autumn of 2008. Come and enjoy pictures from her adventure. The trip was part trekking with <em>Walk-Japan Trek</em> on the Kunisaki Peninsula and part sightseeing.</p>
<p>Starting in Fukuoka on Kyushu, we will see the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Park in Nagasaki and Kumamoto Castle, and several sights in Kyoto and Kanazawa. There will also be scenes of Takayama, located in the Japan Alps.</p>
<p>The <em>Walk-Japan Trek</em> was organized by the <a title="Orinda Hiking Club" href="http://www.orindahiking.org/" target="_blank">Orinda Hiking Club</a>. Thirteen of its members experienced a very strenuous, interesting and fun trekking trip.</p>

Then we&#8217;ll walk through ancient stone fortresses that protected Sweden from invaders for hundreds of years, and tour a 17th century sailing ship. Finally we&#8217;ll visit Denmark, including Copenhagen, Frederikshaven and Skagen &#8211; the northernmost town in that country, plus we&#8217;ll visit the very northern tip of Denmark where two seas meet.</span></span></p>
