CLIR Lecture on Lillian Coit

Happy 80th Birthday Dick Hewetson!

Dick Hewetson, a long time member of CLIR, celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday, March 27th, with a champagne and hors d’ouerves  party at the clubhouse overlooking Mission Creek in San Francisco. Within site of historic house boats and modern highrise condos, that reminded us of the Canal in Copenhagen, a violin player serenaded us as we (including many CLIR members) circulated onto the patio where it was a sunny 72 degrees. But that wasn’t the only entertainment.

Dick has been involved with This Many People, the inaugural play of OutLook Theater Project in honor of LGBT seniors, almost since the very beginning. He appeared as a community performer in their Coming Out Event in July 2008 at the LGBT Center in San Francisco. He then was part of the ensemble that worked together to devise their play in a 12-week residency at The Garage as part of the Queer Arts Festival last June.

In that residency, Dick created the role of Joe, a gay man in his 70’s who has struggled with his identity for most of his life. On Saturday we were surprised and awed when Dick revealed to his guests that he would perform Joe’s defining speech for us.

What a wonderful story which explains how easy, albeit time-consuming, the saving is of one of our most valuable resources!
Carolyn, you always have something interesting and/or kind to talk about and I miss the part of CLIR that you represent.
Thank you for these water saving tips.
